Aluminum Carabiners

Precision craftsmanship and careful attention to detail make these the finest aluminum
carabiners you can buy. Sharp edges resulting from machining operations have been heavily
radiused to help protect rope and webbing from abrasion. All critical diminsions are held
to close tolerances and detailed inspection procedures are carried out during all
production operations. Frames on the Oval, Light D, Mountain D, and Locking D have been
slightly flattened to improve strength and are shaped in such a way that the gate may be
opened under body weight. Every carabiner that leaves our factory has been individually
hand inspected for smooth gate action and other functional characteristics.
Aluminum Oval
The oval carabiner is the traditional classic
carabiner that is functional and considered standard equipment on any rack. The SMC oval
is slightly asymmetrical for increased strength, offers a large gate opening and comes in
a variety of colors.

Aluminum NFPA Approved Locking D
- Rated "P" for Personal Use
The popular aluminum Locking D is available as an NFPA
item making all of the features of this carabiner available in an NFPA aluminum carabiner.
This offset locking carabiner offers high-strength and reliability. The knob locks on the
gate not on the carabiner frame to prevent jamming when loaded.
 The NFPA rescue product pictured below is now
available from SMC. Certified by Underwriters Laboratories to meet the 1995 edition of
NFPA 1983. All products have required certification information stamped on the product and
warning labels and user information is enclosed with each item as required by NFPA. |

SMC Ice Axes & Hammers:

The high quality materials that we use and the SMC manufacturing processes, add up to
superior performance in use. All heads on our SMC Ice Axes and Hammers are chrome-moly
alloy steel and are heat-treated to optimize durability and hardness. The aluminum handles
are finished with a very tough, powder-coat which is highly chip resistant. The heads and
handles are assembled with our patented, insulating connection, which absorbs some of the
shock when the head strikes hard ice. This makes the axe and hammer less tiring to use
because it reduces the amount of vibration transmitted into the handle. Welding of the
head components is done by certified aircraft welders, then magnetic particle inspected
for hidden defects.
Shuksan Ice Axe

The Shuksan axe has been designed to be a general
mountaineering axe that will make the transition into more technical climbing. Its light
weight and good balance make it ideal for glacier travel and the head shape has been
designed to work well for both self-arrest and step cutting. The pick has a slight droop
and teeth that stop short of where your mitten needs to be when gripping the head.

Himalayan
Ice Axe - Patent number 4432404
The Himalayan tools are designed for the steep snow
and ice enthusiast. For this purpose, the heads have more pick curvature, a nicely ground
pick taper and a full-length row of teeth. The heads are made from a thicker stock than
the Shuksan axe, which provides the proper weight for good pick placement in hard ice. Our
patented handle-to-head connection is not only easier on your arm, but it also dampens
vibration back into the head from the handle, which reduces the fracturing of ice during
pick placement.

Himalayan
Ice Hammer - Patent number 4432404
The hammer head has a curved face, designed for
driving pickets or starting ice screws. Our Himalayan aluminum handles are very strong,
and exceed the UIAA test-strength requirements. Both Himalayan tools have a slot in the
pick near the first tooth, for the wrist loop webbing, to reduce the moment arm when when
pulling up.
