Volleyball:

The El Tejon volleyball teams participated this past weekend on Sat.
Nov.3rd  in the Bear Mountain League Finals.  The Bear Mountain League is
comprised of 20 junior high schools from throughout the county.  To
qualify for the league finals, the El Tejon teams had to place in the
top 2 of the Bear Mountain Southern Region.

On Sat. Oct. 27th at Stockdale High, the 7th & 8th grade teams
participated in 8 team tournaments.  The 8th grade Black team beat
Greenfield Jr. High 25-9, 25-9; then in the semi-finals knocked off Mt.
View (Lamont) 25-12, 25-9, and then in the finals handled Haven Drive
(Arvin) 25-13, 25-14 to qualify as the #1 seed out of the South Region
going into the finals.

The 7th grade El Tejon team opened up against Fairfax (Bakersfield) and
won by scores of 28-26, 25-11.  In the semi-finals we defeated Lincoln
(Taft) 25-18, 25-15 to earn a spot in the finals against Haven Drive.
In the finals, we got knocked off 15-25, 20-25 to go into the League
Finals tourney as the south #2 seeded team.

In the league finals which were hosted at Frazier Mountain High School,
the 8th grade black team started off against Bear Mountain League north
#2 representative Cecil Ave (Delano) and blasted them by scores of 25-17,
25-12.  This set up a match in the finals against Haven Drive (Arvin),
which was won in game 1 by El Tejon 25-20.  Game 2 the Bulldogs from
Haven Drive prevailed by a score of 26-24 to set up a game 3 tie-breaker.  In
game 3, the Lady Badgers prevailed by a score of 15-7 to win the Bear
Mountain League championship for the 2nd year in a row, as this same
group won the championship in 7th grade.  Players include:  Haley Herren,
Alexa Puga, Kayla Puga, Sarah Blomgren, Shydel Villa, June Huerta, Amanda
Markham, Karissa Murray, and are coached by Ernie French, Noemi Ortega,
and Charles Stewart.

The 8th Grade Black team ended up going to 7 total tournaments on the year,
and took 1st place in 4 of them, and 2nd place in 2 of them; 6 out of 7
tournaments in the championship game of the  tourney,
A great group of girls to help continue the winning ways at the high
school next year!

In the league finals of the 7th grade division, our 7th graders knocked
off north regional #1 team Earlimart 25-12, 26-28, 15-7 to advance to the
finals against nemesis Haven Drive of Arvin, who they have struggled
against all year.  But in the finals, the El Tejon 7th grade team put
together a great match and won the 7th grade Bear Mountain League
Championship by scores of 27-25, 9-25, 15-13, with games 1 and 3 being
great games for the spectators in attendance.  This is also the 2nd
year in a row for this particular group of players to win the league
championship, as they also won as 6th graders.  Team members include:
Kayla Burns, Dani Gendron, Jessica Pilgram, Angel McNeeley, Heather
Henderson, Faith Bedard, Peyton Price, Dana Jens, Paula Hardesty, and
are coached by husband-wife duo Chuck Mullen and Vickie Mullen.

Our 6th graders also advanced to the championship game of the Bear
Mountain Finals, where they lost to Fairfax, but finished as 2nd place
in league.  To get to the finals, our El Tejon 6th graders defeated El
Tejon's 5th grade team, 21-11; 19-21, 16-14, and then in the semis,
beat Earlimart 21-12; 21-3.  Congratulations to the team members which
include: Angie Arias, Stephanie Diaz, Lorena Ayala, Tyffanee Davis, June
Roberts, Megan Borlace, Holly Ortega, Alex Pivetti, Sami Bever, Diana Posada,
and are coached by Kelly Mielke.

The 2007-08 year for volleyball on the mountain has been a great year
as our 6th graders took 2nd place, our 7th graders 1st place, 8th graders
1st place, Frazier Mountain's JV team 1st place, and Frazier Mountain's
Varsity team 1st place.  Our volleyball program is by far the most
successful program on the hill at the junior high and high school
levels, and will continue to be.

11/8- Varsity Volleyball lost in the playoffs in first round to Dunn, 3-0.

11/2- The FMHS Falcon girls beat Kern Valley last night 3-0 to finish the regular season.  Congratulations to the team and Coach Lemburg for a GREAT year, in spite of early program issues, and good luck in the playoffs......
If someone from the school sends us more info about the team, upcoming playoffs and the JV team's season record we will publish it.

From the AV Press:

Tony Lenz leads Frazier Mountain in big, 50-0, win

This story appeared in the Antelope Valley Press on Saturday, October 27, 2007.

By EDWARD HARBOUR
Special to the Valley Press

FRAZIER PARK - Rushing for 122 yards and three touchdowns, along with kicking extra points and making big tackles on defense Tony Lenz' was the go to guy on the night - and he nabbed homecoming king honors at halftime.

It was just Lenz' night on Friday and there wasn't a thing Rosamond could do about it.

The senior back led the charge as Frazier Mountain (6-2, 1-2) got the best of visiting Rosamond (1-7, 0-3) in every facet of the game, 50-0, in a contest against the High Desert League's lone winless teams.

Offensively, the Roadrunners never got much going, earning just five first downs in the game and 101 yards of total offense - 21 fewer then Lenz had on his own.

Defensively, Rosamond didn't have an answer for anything that the Falcons threw its way, whether it was Lenz or quarterback John Burns, who passed for 245 yards on 12-for-17 passing. He completed passes to seven different receivers on the night. Receiver Danny Venegas had two catches for 100 yards, including a 67-yard touchdown in the second half.

Conversely, Rosamond signal caller Marquiel Archibald finished 3-for-10 for 33 yards and an interception. On the ground the Roadrunners were led by Vance Franco, who had 36 yards in 11 carries.

Steven Porter added a 20-yard run on his only carry of the game to end the contest for Rosamond.

FMHS Loses to Mojave, 28-20

For the second week in a row, the Falcons failed to take advantage of scoring opportunities and gave up the ball on untimely turnovers.  Proving once again that we are in a league and Section that we cannot compete with the best teams for a championship in, and that we should move to Central Section, the squad gave an excellent effort but came up short against bigger, faster kids from Mojave.  Two critical fumbles on pitches inside the 20 on two series, one just after a 67-yard run by Tony Lenz, proved to be their undoing.  An outrageous non-call on a punt by Dustin Madewell, after which he was run into by two Mojave players, didn't help.  Click the links to the left for stats and info.

Falcons are now 5-2, play Rosamond in Homecoming next week.  .........

FMHS Loses to Bishop, 35-21

On a stormy, windy night in Bishop, the Falcon losing streak in Bishop continued.  The scores were 7-0 Falcons at the end of the first quarter, 14-7 Falcons at the half, 14-14 at the end of the 3rd quarter.  The Broncos took it to us in the fourth quarter, outscoring FMHS 21-7, with our 7 coming with a minute left.  Several highly-questionable calls by the officials did not help.  Click the top link on the left margin for stats and info.  Falcons are now 5-1 overall, 0-1 in HDL.  The loss dropped FMHS to #9 in the East Valley Division Poll.

Falcons Beat St Genevieve

10/7/07- The  FMHS Falcon footballers are 5-0 after beating up on St. Genevieve last night , 48-33.  In a game that was not as close as the score, Tony Lenz had 224 yards rushing and scored 36 points.  John Burns and Tim Buxton both had huge nights at QB, completing 10 of 11 passes.   The Falcons had 686 total yards, including 364 rushing, 249 passing; Lenz had 368 yards in offense!  One of the greatest offensive nights in school history.

Click Here for the St. Gen. game stats.

The defense will have to step it up against Bishop this coming Friday to stay undefeated, at Bishop, in the Falcons' first league game.  Call the school for info about location and directions to the game.  248-0310.

Letter regarding officiating at the Bishop football game sent to CIF & HDL:  (No response of course......)

From:  FM Sports <fmsportswire@yahoo.com>

Subject:  fmhs vs. bishop officiating questions

To: Larry Satterfield
  Mojave HS
  High Desert League CIF Rep.

  Hello Larry-
I attended the Bishop-Frazier Mtn. game Friday night as a spectator and just wanted to mention some calls that were made during this game that I felt needed to be reported to you as the HDL CIF representative.

Let me clarify that this is being sent to you on my own and fmhs is in no way connected with this report.  I will also say that Bishop far outplayed us in the second half and would have probably won irrespective of these calls, but they did come at key times of the game and had at least some impact on the final outcome.  I stayed overnight in Bishop and saw a replay of the game on local tv up there.  The announcers also made several comments about some of the calls that were made.  That tape would be available from KSRW TV 33- Sierra Wave TV in Bishop.  The following summarizes what I saw at the game and on TV:

At the end of the first quarter, an illegal shift by Bishop occurred - two men were in motion.  That foul was not flagged, and Bishop was instead allowed to call a timeout AFTER the illegal shift occurred.

At 3:15 left in the first half, during a critical drive, an obvious facemask foul against the FMHS quarterback occurred and was not flagged.

Shortly before halftime, an illegal procedure  against Bishop was flagged, but then picked up.  How can that happen??  Its either an illegal procedure or it is not and should not have been flagged.

At halftime, the timekeeper added 5 minutes to the clock without the permission of the fmhs coach, for Bishop homecoming activities.

In the second half, a punt was blocked and picked up by fmhs' Tony Lenz and advanced for a first down, clearly within the rules.  The officials were on the verge of reversing the call and giving the ball to Bishop the way it appeared to many of us who were in the stands.

In the 4th quarter, with 7:19 left, during a critical drive, Bishop had a 3rd and 9 and there was a clear hold on fmhs #74- Weingarten behind the play in front of an official that was not flagged.

In the second half, a long FMHS pass fell incomplete.  A faceguarding and/or unsportsmanlike against the Bishop coach was flagged but then was picked up.  Its either faceguarding interference or unsportsmanlike or it is not, and the call should have stood or the flag not thrown.

During Bishop's touchdown by Brandon Griffith, making the score 28-14, there was a clear reach,  hold and reaction on FMHS' #74 Weingarten immediately behind the play and clearly visible in the open that was not flagged.

On a kickoff with approx. 5 minutes left in the game, FMHS' Dannie Vanegas received the kickoff with one foot on the endzone chalkline.  Instead of calling a dead ball, he was forced to return the kick and tackled on the 4 yard line.  This occurred directly in front of the official and the tv commentators pointed it out.

On the next play, with 4:30 left in the game, FMHS'  Joey Regan caught a pass on the ten yard line approx. and ran it out of bounds.  The timekeeper did not stop the clock and allowed it to run.  The TV commentators discussed that failure on the videotape as well.  An official was standing on top of the play, saw Regan run out of bounds, pointed at the sideline where he ran out of bounds but did not signal for a stoppage of the clock.

My point in bringing this up is to assure that favoritism is not exercised in HDL games and that an explanation of some of these calls is given to the FMHS parents that were at the game.  If you can get me explanations, I will be sure that they are passed on to local fans.
  Thanks for your help.

10/2/07- The 8th Grade Black team entered this past weekend's tourney having gone to the championship game in 2 prior tourney's, but finishing up with two runner-up trophies to show for it.

This past Saturday at FMHS, the Badgers took the next step by winning their own tourney, in a third times the charm result.

In pool play, the 8th Grade El Tejon Black team defeated Tropico (Rosamond) 25-9, Lincoln (Taft)25-3, and Lakeside 25-5.  In the first round of playoffs, they played members from their own school from our
8th grade El Tejon Silver team and won by a score of 25-13.  In the semi-finals of the (9) team 8th grade bracket, the Black team met up with Rio-Bravo Greeley School from Bakersfield and in an exciting match; ET won 30-27.  This set up a rematch of last year's 7th grade league finals vs. Haven Drive of Arvin, in which the El Tejon Black team won by scores of 30-27, 30-27 to claim the championship in their own tourney.

The team was coached by long-time El Tejon and Frazier Mountain High coach Ernie French this past weekend.
